King's Day at the Consulate General of Belgium in Shanghai

On November 14th, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai partnered up with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Belgium in Shanghai in order to celebrate King's Day, together with more than 180 Belgians and Belgium's friends living in Shanghai.

Even though King's Day is not an official holiday in Belgium, "Koningsdag" or "Fête du Roi", is a day to honor the monarchy, Belgium's role in national unity, and the names of the first four heirs to the throne. The tradition dates back to 1866, when King Leopold II designated the date as his "Name Day," coinciding with the feast of his patron saint, St. Leopold.

The day is an occasion to celebrate Belgium's multicultural diversity and its international relationships, which in Shanghai resulted in a reception showcasing Belgian culture and heritage to Chinese friends of Belgium, featuring "een frietkot / une baraque à frites" and "smoutebollen / croustillon"!
